Record transfer fee placed, but will Tottenham budge?
No-one can deny how serious Real Madrid are about signing Gareth Bale. But the Welsh winger’s current club Tottenham Hotspur are not willing to let the player leave, with chief executive Daniel Levy refusing to even consider the offer. ESPN are reporting that Madrid placed a €100 million bid (£86.3 million), beating the world record fee of £80 million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Manchester United to Real Madrid in 2009.
The Spurs chief executive is notorious for refusing to let players leave the club, although he nearly always caves in. And with this level of money on the table, and Bale himself reportedly wanting the move, it will be almost impossible to turn it down. But the current refusal to consider Madrid’s attempt has supposedly left the player distraught in his chase for Champions League football at one of the world’s biggest clubs. Bale supposedly always dreamed of playing in the Bernabéu.
