E3 2014: LittleBigPlanet 3 announced

It was only last week that Media Molecule said that they would not be showing anything at E3 this year, but during Sony’s E3 conference, the studio unveiled the newest entry in their flagship franchise, LittleBigPlanet 3.

The trailer didn’t just show off the return of Sackboy, making his debut on the PlayStation 4, it also showed off three new sidekicks that will join him in his newest adventure. OddSock, Swoop and Toggle are their names, and each comes with their own unique abilities to further the possibilities of the wildly creative game. As always, all four characters are fully customisable with unlockable designs and costumes.

OddSock is “quick and agile” and can bound up and over walls; Swoop has a gliding ability; and Toggle transforms between a heavy strongman version (Big Toggle) and a tiny speedster who can even glide across water (Little Toggle). Judging by the trailer, Toggle looks set to become the breakout star of the three in terms of popularity, acting as a loveable oaf at the end.

Don’t think that Sackboy himself has been overlooked though, he can now climb and has even more power-ups including the so-called “Pumpinator”. All four heroes unique abilities will be called upon as the quartet attempt to thwart the evil plan of Newton to save the Imagisphere and the new plane, Bunkum.

As for the creative types out there,  Media Molecule have promised additional creative layers for an increased level of depth, allowing players to “jump in and out of the screen right before your eyes, climb up stairs, skate down slides and zip-line on a puffy sponge!”

Perhaps the best news for all kinds of LBP players is that all of the over 8.5 million existing levels from the first two games will work on the PlayStation 4 through LittleBigPlanet 3.

You don’t even have to wait that long, as LittleBigPlanet 3 is releasing in November!
