At E3 this week, Sony unveiled the first trailer for Uncharted 4, showing Nathan Drake returning to the world of thieves. The subtitle for the game, A Thief’s End, has sparked some discussion about whether this may be the final entry in the Uncharted series.
Nolan North, the voice behind Drake, has said that he believes it is. “It’s bitter-sweet but at a certain point you want to go out on top,” North told IGN. “If this is the last one indeed, and I believe it’s the last one – nothing’s confirmed, but I believe it’s the last one Naughty Dog wants to do, in which case I hope somebody else doesn’t pick up the mantle because they’ve done it so well for so long – but yeah, it’s one of those things where you just have to cross that bridge when you get to it.”
That is a sentiment that fans will no doubt agree with. While people may want as much Uncharted as they can get, having another team taking the mantle would produce a hollow feeling game. Just look at the Arkham franchise, while there was nothing wrong with Origins, it lacked the overall attention for detail of the true developer, Rocksteady.
“I like the idea of going out on top so we better do a hell of a job with this one,” North summed up. “And it’s already looking pretty good.”
