DC have a lot of catching up to do in the cinema superhero landscape, with Marvel currently the dominant force but recent rumours suggest that the rival company have an aggressive action plan going forward. In addition to Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice and the Justice League movie, in 2016 and 2017 respectively, there is the recently “leaked” movie slate. Now comes news of a standalone film for Ben Affleck’s Dark Knight.
Tentatively titled The Batman, Latino Review report the film is set for a 2019 release window. The idea is hardly a stretch given Affleck signing on to a multi-picture contract, and Bats is the big money winner for Warner Bros. and DC collaborations. The wide gap between Bat appearances would allow Affleck time to direct his Live By Night project while the pre-production is sorted out for the standalone movie. However, with Affleck already 41 will he want to continue working as the vigilante for such a long stretch?
Next months big Comic-Con is sure shaping up to be a big one for the DC Entertainment division if there is any truth to the recent rumours. What is for certain is that Ben Affleck’s Batman will be seen in Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice on April 29, 2016.
