The latest trailer for the live action reboot of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles has been released, which you can see above.
For better or worse, this is no doubt a darker Turtles movie than fans are used to. You could be forgiven for thinking that Michael Bay has produced a cross-over that sees the four brothers facing off against a Decepticon, but the latest footage actually shows off William Fichtner in his Shredder armour, something previously only glimpsed at via a Twitter image.
As is standard for a Bay trailer (although he is only producer here), there are explosions aplenty, some bad comedy, narrating by the leading warrior (in this case the mentor, Splinter) and Megan Fox. There is even a swipe at their own original plans to have the heroes be aliens rather than mutants in a move to try and placate the angered fans.
The trailer has a decidedly Dark Knight Rises feel to it, thanks to the music and dark underground action, but likely lacks the same anticipation. Almost in acknowledgement of the similarities, there are even jokes about Donatello’s use of a “Batman voice” to intimidate.
The Michael Bay produced and Jonathan Liebesman (Wrath of the Titans) directed Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles reboot releases August 8.
