WWE Intercontinental Champion Bad News Barrett’s participation in Sunday’s Money in the Bank pay-per-view has been put in serious jeopardy after he suffered an injury during last night’s SmackDown tapings.
Barrett separated his shoulder after being thrown into the barricade by Jack Swagger. WWE.com spoke to WWE physician Dr. Chris Amann about the injury. “After Barrett felt an immediate pain and a pop, we brought him back to the training room and the exam showed a separated shoulder,” he explained. “We’re going to do some additional testing this week and then sit down with him and talk about options for treatment for this injury.”
The timing is terrible news for the man who many had considered to be one of the favourites to win the Money in the Bank Ladder match for the briefcase guaranteeing a World Championship match any time in the next year. Worse still, if it puts him on the shelf for a sizeable period of time he will also have to drop his championship.
It seems very unlikely he will be ready to compete in such a physically demanding match, so the best he can hope for now is a short enough lay-off that he can keep a hold of his title.
